With some counting still to go, Reform UK has reached the 28 seats needed for a majority on Calderdale Council.

Reform councillor Dan Sutherland says people in the area "are desperate for change".

He says the party, which he is expected to lead in Calderdale, will "start on our agenda for change" at a meeting on Saturday.

A total of 54 seats are up for grabs in this year's election, with Sutherland confident of even more Reform gains.

It's a late one in Huddersfield!

With a small number of seats still to declare, Kirklees Council is heading towards no overall control.

Reform UK will be the biggest party, with 23 seats so far, and independents are on 12.

Labour is yet to win a single seat.

The Labour Party, which has ruled exclusively in Wakefield since 1974, is virtually wiped out.

With 18 results still to come in Kirklees, Reform UK has stormed ahead - winning 22 of the 51 seats declared so far.

Independent candidates, who won all three seats in Batley West in the last few minutes, are the next biggest winners, taking 12 of the seats declared.

The Conservatives and the Greens are on six seats each, the Liberal Democrats five, while Labour is yet to win anywhere. 35 seats are needed for an overall majority.

It has been a dramatic day in Wakefield, with the chart below saying it all.

Just two years ago, Labour held 48 of the 63 seats on the council, now they're down to just one.

We also saw the council leader and deputy leader go as Reform UK seized control.

Mothin Ali, deputy leader of the Green Party, says it's been an "absolutely fantastic" set of results for the party in Leeds.

The Greens have more than doubled their representation on the council, going from six councillors to 11.

The Gipton and Harehills councillor says: "I think people are fed up with negative campaigning, negative politics.

"People want a message of hope. People want something to believe in."

We're at the halfway point in Calderdale.

Nine of the wards have been declared - and it has been a good night for Reform UK so far.

One supporter cried out "it's a landslide" as Reform took every seat in six wards, plus a further seat in another.

The Greens have reasons to be cheerful too - they have four councillors elected so far, compared to their three before the election.

Counting has just started in the remaining nine seats, so it's looking like it's going to be a late one in Halifax.

Speaking at today's vote count in Leeds, where Labour lost overall control of the council, Leeds East MP Richard Burgon says the prime minister "needs to be honest with himself, honest with the party and honest with the country and accept he's fought his last election".

Burgon, a backbencher who has been in Parliament since 2015, says Starmer should set out a timetable for his departure, but stops short of naming his preferred candidate to take over. The successor needs to represent a clean break from the current cabinet, he adds.

Burgon lays the blame for today's local losses at Starmer's door and says Labour councillors have lost their seats "through no fault of their own".

There's been a three-way split in Keighley East. Angela Jayne Baker took a seat for Reform, Caroline Firth won for Labour and Conservative Angela Fish also took a seat. The seat was previously held by three Labour councillors.

Long-serving Liberal Democrat councillor Baroness Kath Pinnock, who managed to come out on top after a toe-to-toe, vote-for-vote scrap in the Cleckheaton ward, says tsunamis may "come in quickly" - but they also go out quickly too.

Pinnock, whose ward now has two Lib Dem members and one from Reform, says some voters - who had previously been loyal to the Lib Dems - told her they were voting Reform this time.

"People have seen money go to other parts of the North, while they've also seen their leisure centre and town hall closed," she says.

"That really matters to people."

Here's the final breakdown for Leeds City Council after today's results.

Labour’s control over the authority was lost after falling from 56 seats to 48.

They required at least 50 to maintain an overall majority.

Overall turnout was 41.49%.

Over in Kirklees, it was triple trouble for party leaders on the council.

John Lawson, who led the Lib Dems, lost his seat in Cleckheaton after 16 years. He vows he will "absolutely" be back.

David Hall, who led the Conservatives, was also defeated in Liversedge & Gomersal, having first been elected in 2004.

It comes after Labour group leader on Kirklees Council, Carole Pattison, lost her seat earlier.

The word from the count is that Labour has lost overall control in Leeds.

There are 99 seats on the council, so a party would need more than 50 elected councillors for a majority.

Bradford Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe has just lost her Windhill and Wrose seat.

The ward was won by Reform UK councillors Sally Jane Birch, Stephen Broadbent and Chris Howlett.

Hinchcliffe, who has been the council leader for a decade, thanks her Labour colleagues and says she is very proud of the legacy she leaves behind.

"It's disappointing for Labour councillors who have worked so hard and are absolute heroes for the district," she says.

She adds: "No matter what the result is today, the answer is not Nigel Farage."

Daniel Sutherland, leader of the Reform UK group on Calderdale Council, has retained his seat.

It means the party has already surpassed the three councillors it had on the council prior to yesterday's vote, with plenty of seats still to be declared.

Sutherland was re-elected in Illingworth and Mixenden with 1,739 votes.

Reform UK's Sarah Wood, who has won the Liversedge and Gomersal seat, says people on doorsteps in Kirklees have been sharing "a lot of apathy with the establishment".

"There was also a ground swell of 'we just need a change' and need to turn the ship around, along with a willingness to have faith," she says.

Wood adds that it's "not over yet", but it "does not look great for Labour".

There's some good news for Labour in Bradford - council deputy leader Imran Khan keeps his seat in Bowling and Barkerend alongside his party colleagues Rizwana Jamil and Hassan Khan.

Labour received 4,034 votes in the ward, with Your Bradford Independent Group coming second with 3,334 votes.

The first result for Calderdale is in, with Reform UK securing three seats in Brighouse.

Darren Commons, Mark Kimberlin and Stephen Mycroft received 1538, 1470 and 1484 votes respectively.
