Judging the North West Producer of the Year competition

Food writer, Clarissa Hyman gets stuck in

A group of the region's top food experts met up this week to taste their way through a mountain of food and drink to find the North West Producer of the Year. The competition is organised by North West Fine Foods and Booths Supermarkets and gives the region's food producers a chance to showcase their produce and battle it out for the top prize.

No wonder celebrity chef Paul Heathcote is looking happy, he's surrounded by food to taste!

Stuart and Ian the chefs from Northcote Offsite. They were very busy bees and cooked all the sausages, bacon, beef and black pudding - phew!

The team from North West Fine Foods who worked their little socks off getting things organised and bringing all the food products out to the judges.

Out comes the beef, sirloin, ribeye, kebabs, fillet, topside....

... and there's more! We produce a lot of beef in the North West!

And then on come the pickles and relishes - there are some hot ones here!

Not so much left on these plates - these desserts obviously needed lots of tasting!

It's got to the tough decision time for the judges... there are so many good products to choose from... it's a close run thing.... the tension is mounting.... and the winners....
