Kirkham faced their toughest task of the season so far as they took on YMCA at Warton. YM began to exert some pressure by forcing a succession of corners, and ithey took the lead in only the 7th minute. Kirkham struggled to get a foothold in the game. McCulloch, Gallagher Miller and Everett in the Kirkham midfield had to work overtime to stop the visitors from taking full control. On 18 minutes Kirkham were rewarded for their efforts when they got a deserved equalizer - as the ball bounced around the 18 yard box Mayor was on hand to smash a great shot into the roof of the net. Kirkham were now in the driving seat and poured forward in search of the lead, and YM conceded a penalty which was missed. But, as half-time approached, YM took the lead with an excellent individual goal. In the second half, honours were even and neither side really threatened as the clock ran down. The visitors nearly rubbed salt in the wound with a late effort that brought a good save from Wyke. Man of the Match award: This week the award goes to McCulloch for his tireless running in midfield.
