Kirkham JFC

Kirkham JFC

By Peter Woods
The weekend's action from Kirkham Junior Football Club...

Under 9s:
Kirkham Juniors A 3-0 Poulton Town

Good running, tackling and passing by the midfield quartet of Bradley Wilson, Matt McCormick, Jack Stainton and Charlie Cottam kept the opposition on the back foot, but only two excellent saves by James Lawrance kept the score goalless at half time.

KJFC again started the second half the livelier of the two sides and within 3 mins, Russell Townsend skilfully turned the keeper and ran the ball into the net. KJFC kept up the pressure with numerous attacks and corners. Jack then hit number 2. and Charlie goal number three. Man of the Match: James Lawrance for two great saves that kept KJFC in the game in a close first half.

Kirkham Juniors B 2-2 Poulton Town

Holding a 3-0 lead from the first game, Kirkham got off to a dreadful start with a penalty conceded after just 15 seconds, but Nathan Jones pulled off a great save. KJFC fought their way back into the game with Elliot Smith, Daniel Pettigrew, Ritchie Hall and Callum Fidling all working hard in midfield harassing the opposition and beginning to set up more attacks. Declan powered in the equaliser, but the Poulton keeper was very good and managed to keep the score to 1-1 at half time.

KJFC started much the better team with the Poulton goal under constant attack by Josh Pownall, Daniel Robertson and Elliot Smith, all of them having some great efforts. Against the run of play Poulton managed to score a second but Callum Fidling banged in the equaliser. KJFC played the better football but were up against one of the best Keeper's seen this season who single-handedly managed to keep KJFC at bay. The game finished at 2-2, but the U9s first Coulton Cup game resulted in a 5-2 aggregate win - well done lads.

Man of the Match:

Declan Cartwright for good attacking play, always looking to score and netting a great equaliser

Under 12s:
YMCA 2-5 Kirkham Juniors

Within 3 minutes of kick off Ryan Hanlon loosed an unstoppable shot from just outside the centre circle and put Kirkham 1-0 up. YMCA quickly equalised before Ben Pownall roasted a shot into the back of the net to put Kirkham 2-1 ahead. With 5 minutes of the first half remaining Dougie Allan, looped the ball over the keeper to give Kirkham a commanding 3-1 lead at half time.

The second half saw Ben Pownall rifle another shot home to put Kirkham 4-1 ahead within 10 minutes of the restart. Kirkham let YMCA get back into the game as they scored to make it 4-2, but it was Ben Pownall who became a hat-trick hero and buried the with another well taken shot to make it 5-2 to Kirkham

Man of the Match:

No. 11 - Fred Speak for a good all round performance.

Under 14s:
Kirkham Juniors 5-2 B.J.F.F.

Kirkham had another good win today against a strong BJFF side, BJ came out strong and scored the first goal, Kirkham came straight back when a goalmouth scramble finished with the ball in the back of the net,Jack Cookson claimed this one levelling the game at 1-1, Kirkham missed many chances and Micheal Carter again made some fine saves, Jack Watson's header put Kirkham in front and Jack Needham headed the 3rd past the keeper, Kirkham went in 3-1 up at the HT whistle.

In the second half a battling BJFF came back again to take an early goal and it was again game on at 3-2, Carl Stewartson made a run down the left handside and finished it off with a strong drive into the top corner of the net. Craig Burke took the final goal to seal the win at 5-2 to Kirkham.

Under 17s:
South Shore 2-2 Kirkham Juniors

Matt Walwyn made his reappearance for Kirkham playing up front alongside Joe Brown. Kirkham dominated, taking the lead on ten minutes when Brown hit a low shot into the corner, and although South Shore rarely threatened at all in the first half, Kirkham should have gone in with a bigger lead than 1-0.

It was a different tale after the break, and Kirkham struggled, but just before the hour they had a 2-0 advantage after Walwyn was brought down by the keeper, but got up to put away the spot kick.

South Shore still looked threatening, and could do nothing about a shot into the top corner three minutes from time. With the last attack of the game, a South Shore forward hammered the ball into the net seconds before the ref blew the whistle for full time.
