Founded in 1957, Stax Records was synonymous with Southern Soul music. Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra pay tribute to this pioneering label in a concert featuring hits from Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes and Johnnie Taylor.

American pianist Jeremy Denk joins Karina Canellakis and the BBC SO for Bartók’s ferociously brilliant Second Piano Concerto – a contrast to the pastoral beauty of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8. The concert opens with Missy Mazzoli’s mesmeric Sinfonia.

The two volumes of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier together represent a wealth of musical invention, ingenuity and delight. Eminent Bach-specialist Sir András Schiff here performs Book I – concluding the cycle next year with Book 2.

Join in the Last night of the Proms celebrations in Hyde Park, hosted by Michael Ball, with Proms in the Park favourites the BBC Concert Orchestra under the baton of Richard Balcombe, and special guest Sir Bryn Terfel, headlined by Sir Ray Davies.

Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra weave together many of this season’s strands with music by John Adams, Sibelius and Malcolm Sargent. Nina Stemme leads the end-of-season festivities, joined by the BBC Singers and BBC Symphony Chorus.
