The first part of a two-part commission by Helen Grime (see also Prom 30) opens the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s first Prom. It’s followed by Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and Stravinsky’s Petrushka.

Edward Gardner conducts the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the women of the City of Birmingham Youth Chorus in Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra and Holst’s The Planets. The programme opens with a new work by Iris ter Schiphorst.

Sir Mark Elder conducts Mahler’s masterpiece for orchestra and voice – with soloists Alice Coote and Gregory Kunde. In the first half there’s a rare opportunity to hear Berlioz’s King Lear Overture and Colin Matthews’s Berceuse for Dresden.

Legendary pianist Martha Argerich – who celebrates her 75th birthday this year – joins the West–Eastern Divan Orchestra to perform Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1, before an all-Wagner second half.

The Metropole Orkest – one of the world’s leading pop and jazz orchestras – celebrates the music of Quincy Jones in this Monday night Prom, conducted by Jules Buckley.

Gabriela Montero is the soloist in Grieg’s Piano Concerto, the programme also includes music by Villa-Lobos, Marlos Nobre and Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances.

The São Paulo Jazz Symphony joins Marin Alsop and the city’s symphony orchestra for a Late Night Prom exploring Brazilian popular music.

Iván Fischer conducts an all-Mozart programme, including the Clarinet Concerto and the Requiem. Soprano Lucy Crowe and tenor Jeremy Ovenden are among the soloists.

Hans Abrahamsen’s let me tell you is paired with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 for the CBSO’s first of two Proms, this one conducted by the orchestra’s new music director.
