Henk de Boer, Dokkum, The Netherlands
Hello there!During daytime: 729, 765 good by fair signal.1530 some better, but freq. not clean. So today I listen on 729 khz.Good music and very nice old jingels!!!!!Nice to hear Rosco on the radio...Greetings,Henk

Dave form Brentwood
You've got Johnnie Walker, we'd love to hear from Ronan O'Reilly. Come on Ronan, it could be the only opportunity we have to thank you, even if it is the beeb (although they are paying a huge compliment to you with PRessex).

Dave
Hi guys, this is brilliant, the best listening I've done for the last forty years, and how radio should be.

Bob
So right for the time and season, there is no better way to commemorate the wonderful era of free radio than to do it all again with all the excitement, enthusiasm and some of the same folk. Congratulations and thanks to the live stream it's loud and clear here in Cornwall and South Devon. This should be national and 24 hrs a day, real magic Bob

Andreh (Holland)
and this.... can only be created at the BBC...you heard how happy Rosko was with 'no commercials'?

Stephen Whorlow
Hi Dave and all and sundry - I remember where I was when Pirate Radio went off air. I was working at Boggle Hole Youth Hostel, near Robin Hood Bay. I was 19 yrs old and i normally listened to Radio 270, which was off Scarborough. As i didnt have much time to do a lot, and half the month I couldn't get along to the beach to the pub in RHB because of the tide, so I just listened to Pirate Radio on my small of smallest tranny radio. A sad day when all closed down. I also know exactly where I was when Tony (the Voice of Radio One) Blackburn opened up Radio One. I was sitting on the side of my bed putting on my boots. I was an instructor with the Lincs. ACF, and at weekend camp at Beckingham, Nr. Newark. All the best to you all and thanks memories.Stephen, Folkestone.

Andreh
In Holland, The Hague, the programmes can even be received on 729 & 765 kHz. It's wonderfull and much more worth than all my souvernirs!

Brian Coapes
Brilliant to hear you Johnny Walker at sea again. Excellent quality reception (not like 40 years ago in Newcastle upon Tyne) on broadband in Knaresborough. Lovin it.

Phil and Caroline Webster, Derby
Cracking weekend's radio. Can relive great memories via internet and 765am with crackles and buzz. Just a style of radio that is sadly lacking today cos of restrictions and dreaded pc. Keep on rockin and many thanks for great memories, how 40 years roll away!

John Consterdine
To emphasise the comment from Lynda Smith: if we can produce a lovely station like Pirate Radio Essex AS A ONE OFF

Alan Cook . Hants
I have just read latest edition from Hans Knot. And one person summed up the 60s Pirates in one Sentence. The DJs entertained.. They ALL had their different ways, Emperor Rosko, Johnny Walker, Twiggy Day, and Mike A Hearn, Keefers. Its right, they entertained, and with Rosco, I havent laughed so much in years. BBC Essex thankyou, please bring it back. You All desereve a Medal, I feel 40 years younger. But us young people do need some sleep

Ben (from Amsterdam)
I was 14 when most of the British offshore radio stations left the airwaves in 1967. Together with some friends I listened to the final hour on Radio London. Fortunately I have a copy of the final hour on a CD. A few years later the Dutch offshore radio stations were forced to be stopped as well.Thank you so much for these wonderful memories on Pirate BBC Essex. I really am enjoining them.

wolfgang seide, berlin
its great to hear the emperor is back on a ship.1966 i can hear rosko on radio caroline in the northern part of germany. great time & great music.thank you very much!!!

Tony

Colin Wiseman
Good to hear you all again!Iam listening on 765AM & on line.Did you know that there is another LV lightship currently broadcasting off the Dutch coast? Good luck to all, best regards, Colin Wiseman, Croydon ,Surrey

Jane Clarke
I lived for and loved Radio London for its entire existence. Best years, best music ever and it is like a breath of fresh air hearing the DJs and - most of all - echoes of that atmosphere for these brief but special six days. You can keep your CDs, your digital radio and your Sky TV - I prefer listening in on good old Medium Wave to music and presenters with true "grit".I look forward to catching Dave Cash because he and Kenny were my real "first loves"!!! I knew Ken later on and still miss him. Pirate Radio also introduced us all to lesser-known American 60s pop music and I owe it a debt for that alone. My mother and I are loving every minute. Well done. Just WONDERFUL. God bless the Pirates. God bless the music.PS: Any chance of rooting out a record by the Magic Lanterns called "Rumplestiltskin"?If not, "Cherish" by the Association (my favourite group) will do very nicely, thank you.

Andy Andersen
Absolutely great to hear all the old songs again, and be transported back in time to the "Swingin' Sixties". Surely some enterprising businessman could afford to put this station on the air PERMANENTLY!? Must be a gold mine waiting there for some canny person!

Anne & Len
We listened to Radio Caroline between 1964 and 1967 and it's great to listen to the lovely old records again - We need something like this to-day!!!We keep listening out for "DOWN IN THE BOOM DOTS" by BILLY J. ROYAL (We think this was the title and artist) as we last heard this about 40 years ago - Anyone remember this out there?Anne & Len London,Ps We saw the Radio Caroline Ship in 1964 anchored out at sea from a coach day trip from Clacton Essex

roy of witham essex
this is radio, we all want radio as it should be again thanks

Trevor Mcilveen
Great programme from Mark .Good to hear the interaction on air,cos dont get much on other stations. The mistakes made by some djs just add to the appeal.

Willy Walker - "Big L"
Wombat G'dey! Breakfast time in Florida with the sounds of Pirate Radio....brilliant!Nice to hear the sounds and memories of the 'good old days of the 60's'they were great days...Rock on.

Colin Harker
Great station, hope the beeb does it again. may be off the coast of scarbourgh next, on Pirate bbc north yorkshire just like radio 270 did.

mike lester

Angela Woodward
Good afternoonI am Sorry to hear some people have seen the need to complain about your efforts on board the LV18, as the wife of one of the crew i would just like to agree with Roger Day who commented that you don't have to listen to it, it maybe sad and anoraky but what is even sadder is that you lot felt the need first to listen to it then to complain you really do lead a sad exsitence - but hey thanks for contributing to the listening figures-Good luck with the rest of the broadcast it actually sounds quite fun Angela WoodwardP.S. Hi daddy from Amy

bernard moore
Many thanks for reliving all our yesterdays. Been listening to your show for the past few days and will be until the end . What a pity it will have to end . REAL MUSIC for once . Please say hello to everyone on ANSWER BACK , as it was someone on there who put your link on . Keep it up .

Bob Price
Come on other BBC local station's take the Pirate BBC Essex feed on your AM outlets. We can't be tied to the internet all week, some people have to go to work.

Sandwalker
God its been years since I have enjoyed radio this good, Listening to you up in Dalgety Bay (Scotland) via the digital airwaves, Oh how I wish you were still out there radio Caroline/Meamego, London, Northsea etc. Any chance you could resurrect our 'Pirate' stations on the internet even with the (70's) comercials. Love it

Lars Wahlin from Denmark
Jolly good to have all the superb DJ's back !keep on the good work !:-) Lars

Raoul Verolleman

kevin
i'm back to being a 17y/o,with my Perdo transistor in my pocket, listning via the web in north lancashire the only thing to make it better would be to be listening on medium wave

ken myers
GREAT WONDERFUL MARVELLOUS ..to hear those songs and Dj's from the past long may they last.....As one of people who marched to protest about the closure of the pirates,it is really great to wallow in those hits again....Great to hear Mike Ahearn again

jan
Here in the the north of the Netherlands i can receive your broadcast on 729khz and 765khz and also very strong on 1503khz and not on 1530khz, hmmm that must be a pirate.....These transmissions take me back to the 70's and 80's ;-)

John Lakeman
Dear Mike,Fantastic to hear you again after all this time - never thought it would happen - let alone thanks to the beeb! Just goes to show you never can tell.Loved the Caroline theme you just played. I named my daughter after Radio Caroline - I wonder how many other people did! She is now 27 - and has always wondered what was so special about the station - now she has had a chance to get the magic.John Lakeman

John Consterdine
Hi Mike Ahern,Haven't heard you on the air since you were on 4BC (4BH?) Brisbane Nice to hear you again!

john
Great Stuff - coming in at High Wycombe on 765mw complete with offshore hisses and crackles as the old days!Well done Roger and Johnnie great listening - Hope those short sighted blinker people at 'BBC Three Counties' are looking and listening to this site and put Keith S back on Sunday and Monday nights!Look forward to 2014 do the same for the closure of the Dutch stations!!

Lawrence Elliott
Fantastic, this is the best radio I,ve heard since the pirates were silenced all those years ago. Great to hear all the DJ's again. What a great idea. The BBC should make this permanent - it would have a huge following. It brings all those memories flooding back. Well done to those involved keep up the great sounds.

BOB
GREAT STATION GREAT MUSIC GREAT DJ PLEASE DO IT AGAIN

Paul Brookman, Milton Keynes
Listening to Roger Twiggy Day the memories just come flooding back. Roger you were my favourite DJ on Caroline and later RNI - maybe because like you I hail from Margate. I wasn't quite so clever though - unlike you didn't make Chatham House, just Hartsdown Secondary School. Remember interviewing your dad, Bert, for the Isle of Thanet Gazette when you started with Picadilly Radio in maybe 1974. Also remember your progressive discos at Dreamland Ballroom in 71 or 72. You don't sound like you've aged one bit. What better way of celebrating the 40th anniversary than giving Caroline permission to broadcast on FM and DAB nationwide - listen to them on Sky and the internet but not quite so convenient. How about it Mr Man in the Government?Keep up the good work.

Vince Neale
I used to live in E Ham and enjoyed listening to both Caroline & London. I now live about 60 mls S of LA and thanks to my Aunt's tip I'm hearing the fantastic sounds of those exciting times. As I'm 8hrs behind most of my listening is at work!! I actually got goosebumps today when I heard JW playing his Duane Eddy signature tune!! I'm also looking forward to hearing Dave C again and to be reminded of the hilarious Kenny & Cash show. Why do the songs we all own sound so much better on the radio? Where are the other PAM jingles (licensing problems?). I think a cd compilation would be a fantastic seller. I would be interested in seeing a top 50 of the most requested songs of the pirate era or even each djs own top 20 listed on the web-site. As nice an idea as it seems I think making this a permanent fixture would be like having Xmas every day but I am concerned at this tag 'the last time'. Why couldn't this be an annual event? It's obvious from the world-wide response that a repeat would be welcomed. Thanks to all the djs for taking me back to a fun and carefree time and thanks to the BBC for organising it or was it Steve S.

john
maney thanks for the broadcastit reminds me of a simply timewe coke came in glass bottlesoxo can in a tinand i had a full head of hairlove and peacer john

Steve Young
Hi to Jon Kerr....I'm listening to you live here in Victoria BC. It's great to hear your voice and I only wish I could have been with you and the rest of the guys this week. I'm sure you've heard about my passport "issues", which have kept me hostage here in Canada instead of being with you there on BBC Pirate Essex. The audio quality is great and I'm really enjoying listening to everyone. I'm not sure, though, if this is the correct route to get a message through to the studio...I can't seem to find a direct E-mail link, but I hope this gets to you.All the best mate,Steve YoungThe Curly Headed Kid in the 3rd Row

Too far away to blink with the lights of my car but wanted to let you know I am enjoying your Pirate event very much.Listening by internetstream is enough to get into the mood of legandary offshoreradio as from the old days.It is a real shame that you stop so soon. But it's great ofcourse to hear you live once again. Not to mention all those great tracks and voices from another era (which could be this era as well if you only joined forces). And sympathy is what you get my friend(s)!!!PerrrHolland

Brian Cooke
I was a youngster when Pirate Radio was around it was GREAT! Pirate Radio inspired me to get into broadcasting! Then along with my time in TV (36 years) my dream came true when I got the chance to present (as a hobby) on the Commercial Radio station in Bradford - Pennine Radio. I now am programme controller (and a presenter) on a community radio station called Drystone Radio! ALL because of pirate radio!

Bjoern Langballe
Hi Pirates of Essex. How wonderful to hear radio from a ship again. I Listen to you from my home in Helsingborg in Sweden, where we in the "old" days could see the radioship of Radio Mercur, Cheeta II, later Radio Caroline. I whish you the best of days and all respect for august 14th 1967, when I heard YOU Johnny om mediumwave and your spek to the nation. All the best from Bjoern in Helsingborg in Sweden

Kenelm James
Loving the Johnnie Walker Show, awesome music from the daddy of 'em all.I was in London for the Radio Academy's Offshore Radio Convention last Saturday and met Johnnie for the first time having been listening to him over the last 37 years on R1/Luxy/Radio West/Wiltshire/old Radio 5/GLR & R2!Got a signed copy of his autobiography which I consumed avidly in under 24 hours!Fantastic read if you haven't got hold of a copy yet!!BTW if any of you are on Facebook, I've got a Pirate BBC Essex group running which you are welcome to join and post pics etc to!! :)

Martin Rosen
I have been locked on since yesterday morning !!Great memories. It's all about the personalities. (current English joke, Fredi!)

Trevor Mcilveen
I agree with what JW & Twiggy said. The 60s was the best. No period since has come close to producing such great music. How glad I am to have been born in 1944 so was 16 when the era began.

wolfgang seide
great sound on my laptop here in berlin, germany. love the soul music from booker t., erma, percy etc. thank you johnnie walker

Rosemary
Thank you for bringing this back. I was a member of the Radio Caroline club and used to listen avidly. You bring back wonderful and memories, and yes we were pioneers and because of you and the Radio's Caroline and London listeners, the broadcasting of pop music changed forever. Wonderful to hear you all gain. Please play the Radio Caroline theme tune/song ThanksThanks - please do it again.

Alan Cook
I was a big Caroline Fan in the 60s, Radio wasnt the same when it left in 1968 quite suddenly!Commercial Radio came along, and is now a flop!BBC, Pirate Radio Essex is brilliant, just what we need. It feels as though our old ship mates are talking to us. Please if you can split the frequencys!

barry gilder

Edward
Hi Guy’sGreat Radio that were all enjoying listening to and you all sound like your having the best time broadcasting to us, how come after 40 year’s none of us in our age group have a Radio station we all really want. Anyway enjoying every minute of the broadcast lets hope one day we can all have a station like Pirate BBC Essex and all the offshore Stations we all loved.

Tom
As a precursor to the 11:00 o'clock slot Johnnie, the Space Shuttle followedby the Space Station pass overhead from west to east beyween 10:50 and 11:00.These are visible to the eye and look like bright stars as they pass over.Providing there is no cloud cover it should be a simple exercise to look upwards to see them before they join up

Jim Wilson
Absolutely Brilliant up until Johnny Walker then it really took off...Too good for words

RICHARD SKINNER
Hey Johnnie!Skinner here, listening with Deborah and feeling 15 again! You're sounding very good. Great enjoyment.Keep it up!Richard and Deborah (and Jamie aged 11.. and confused!)PS. Say hi to Twigs

Bill King
Great to hear Wohnny Jalker on Pirate BBC Essex. Can't believe it's 40 years ago since that day in August that Big L went off the air.If Johnnie is going to have a session of "Frinton Flashing" - even if it is fron Shotley - how come he hasn't mentioned Jelly Tots Sentries? Or is that my memory playing tricks? And how about Otis Redding? It just won't be the same without "Sittin'on the dock of the bay"! Great to hear you, keep on rockin, - Bill in Hythe, Kent, listening on the internet - the reception is better than I remember on MW, although unlike my tranny, I can't hide my PC under my pillow!

Paul Osborn, still in Tunis
(re the JW show, Friday)Rarely have I wanted to stay awake as much as this evening, and no doubt it'll be the same the next few evenings. I'm working in Tunis for a few months on and off, on communications about climate change and water wastage in all the countries in, and bordering on, the Sahara and Sahel. Thanks for the show, and to Radio Essex management for the whole idea. Play one for Bill The Boiler Man cheers Paul Paul Osbornborn 1948often on a coast near Frinton 66 - 67

peter
hi to everyone from peter in orpington , a special hi to johnnie walker , its so great to hear you back on a pirate radio ship again ......the station sounds so good , shame it cant be here for ever....

Jane Gretton
What a start Johnnie, I have just gone back 40 years. It's wonderful

Mike Terry
I have never forgotten the sixties offshore stations. The revolution in radio was integral to my teenage years and I still love hearing the lesser well known singles that the offshore stations played. Forget the "Gold" stations, bring back stations like Pirate Radio Essex - the playlist (well what the djs like to bring in)is fantastic.Hope this isn't the last time we will hear you.Mike in Bournemouth

Frank McNally
Thanks for the memories .. regards to anyone who knows me including the Branch TV group of techs who assist each other (and who informed me of this site)Greetings fro Atrhens Greece where I have been for teh last 20 years .. nice to listen to what is going on back home

David Hutson
Wow, been waiting weeks for this time, even that I am still sad when I think what happen on that Monday afternon in Auguest 1967...Since your lasting in Easter 2004, ok on our radio front us 'Annoraks' do have a sort of 'pirate radio scence via the net and here in essex. However nothing can beat the BBC/Radio London Ltd . Well done all.

Dave Jackson
'ROCK ON PIRATE RADIO'absolutley fantasmagorical. It's just fantastic having decent radio to listen to, not before time. This country will never learn when you've got something as good as this don't meddle.HANDS OF OUR PIRATES.

Fred Bunzl
Hi Keith,Wonderful music, wonderful entertainment, wonderful memories! Thanks to you and all the crew.I emigrated from the UK in 1976 and now live in Geneva, Switzerland from where I am listening to you now.I still have a copy of "Radio Onederland" autographed by yourself (and dated November 5th 1968) with your P.S. "I used to live in Grove Park"(I used to live in Bickley/Bromley and Petts Wood). If you have time, please send my very best to my old friends at what was in the late 1960's and early 1970's the "Campaign for Independent Broadcasting" -- in particular David Prewett, Martin Rosen, Caroline Peters, John Ker and Adrian Proctor. All the best,Fred

James Thomson
What a great station fab dj's this station should be on air all the time hope to see it's return very soon.

Lynda Smith
Why can't radio ALWAYS be like this - just total fun and light and sheer joy. Isn't this what entertainment was always meant to be but somewhere along the line.....And why is it not possible to continue with this celebration of everything we remember as being so good from those childhood/early teen (or whatever) years .

Julia and James Wilson
We love Pirate Radio Essex and are having difficulty getting out because we don't want to miss any of it. (Still it may do my weight some good as the cupboard is nearly bear and I need to go shopping). Please don't let this be the last one, we need it at least once a year. Come on let's have one next year. Pretty Please. :-) Thanks to all involved getting it up and running, It is a wonderful programme.

joe mayor
how about this i flattened my moriss 1000 battery 40 years ago talking to walker with my headlights at frinton,i never had the sense to keep the engine running, and i had to get my girlfriend home to romford by 11pm,her dad used to come out and get her in at 11pm on the dot,i never made it boy was i in trouble, and all johnnies fault, but i forgive you, love you all wish you could stay forever cos i love it, my best wishes to you all, from joe mayor, cranham.

Alan Fox a.k.a. alan in herts
I listen to it 2 days on and off. I was too young for the pirates. however, do remember radio caroline in the 80s. lasser 558, and radio luxembourg. as well as radio1 and capital radio when it has some kind of personality. I had to listen to keith skues, I enjoyed john kerr, will listen again today. I thought steve scruton was a blast your radio station needs you. please be on tonight you have a dirty laugh. all from a man born in 1974. do the maths. I will say it's been a blast. I think radio been boring since prmetime radio went off air and I was not the target audience.

Dave Lomas
Fantastic radio!Born the right time to have enjoyed the whole era of the pirates and still listening to Johnnie Walker and Roger Day. But what a treat to be able to here some of the others, Keith skues, Duncan Johnson,Dave Cash, Rosko etc. Many thanks to all DJ's and staff for this wonderful anniversary event. To all listeners -- Enjoy!

Mike Melbourne Bedford
Thanks to every one involved in output,It takes me back to my youth when the only thing I had to worry about was making sure I had a spare battery for my Ferguson transistor radio so that I didn't miss any of the music.

Santa Fe Fan
Absolutely fantastic! Loved the Pirate days from the very first day of Caroline on 199 metres dong dong! and this is so very similar. Love hearing about what's happening in the river too.Only wish something like this could be permanent along with the "proper jocks"! How about it guys? we need it!!Thanks for some great music! ( oh, and it really doesn't matter about the mistakes!)

The Taylors, from Benfleet
Sounds fantastic - keep up the good work!

Barry
Ahh.. the memories. I used to listen to Caroline north and 270 when I lived in Yorkshire, I could even get Big L in the evening if I went outside and placed my tranny against the telegraph pole. Reminds me I must get my "K-tel Pirate Radio" (Caroline and London) album digitised for car/PC listening. You bring back so many memories it has brought tears to my eyes and I hate nostalgia. I think we are the forgotten generation as far as radio goes, there IS a place for this type of station to exist, I will be listening all weekend
