5 tips to be an amazing wildlife photographer
Are you a wildlife enthusiast with a passion for photography? Here are some handy tips and tricks to help you get started and capture amazing wildlife photos. Let us know how you get on!

Tip 1: Preparation
Before you head out on your wildlife adventure, make sure you're ready:
Make sure your phone, camera or tablet has a fully charged battery.
Take a soft cloth to gently wipe away any smudges or dirt from the camera lens.
Check the weather forecast before you go, and dress for the conditions.
Do a bit of research about the wildlife you're hoping to spot. For animals, knowing where they live and what time of day they're most active will give you a better chance of seeing them. For plants, knowing where best they grow is important too.

Tip 2: Understand your camera
The better you know your camera, the easier it will be to capture amazing wildlife photos!
Learn how to focus on your subject. If you're using a phone, try tapping the object you want to photograph on the screen. This helps your camera focus clearly on it.
Explore your camera's settings. You may be able to make photos brighter or darker if the lighting isn't quite right.
Want to capture animals in action? Try using burst mode, which takes lots of photos in quick succession. This can help you catch the perfect moment, whether it's a bird taking off or a squirrel leaping through the trees.
If your camera allows you to change the shutter speed, a faster shutter speed can help make moving animals look sharp and clear.

Tip 3: Patience
Great wildlife photos often take time, so don't worry if you don't get the perfect picture straight away!
Wildlife photography requires lots of patience. Animals don't always appear when we want them to, and nature can be unpredictable. Some wildlife photographers spend hours, or even days, waiting for the perfect shot.
Be patient with yourself too. Every photographer takes photos that don't turn out as planned. The more you practise and experiment, the more your skills will improve.
Take lots of photos and have fun. You might be surprised by the amazing moments you capture!

Tip 4: Think like an animal
Understanding animal behaviour can help you know where and when to look for wildlife.
Different animals are active at different times of the day. Some are nocturnal, which means they come out at night. Others are most active in the early morning or around sunset. Some animals even hibernate for part of the year. Learning about your chosen animal will give you a much better chance of spotting it.
Try to see the world from the animal's point of view. Where might it hide, feed or rest?
Get low to the ground when it's safe to do so. Taking photos from the same level as the animal can make your pictures feel more immersive and help show the animal in its natural habitat.
Remember to keep a respectful distance and avoid disturbing wildlife while you're taking photos.

Tip 5: Blend into your surroundings
The less you disturb wildlife, the more natural your photos will be.
Try to blend into your surroundings. Wearing colours that match the environment can help you avoid standing out.
Stay quiet and calm so you don't scare any animals away.
Move slowly and carefully. Sudden movements can startle wildlife and make it harder to get a photo.
Turn off sounds and notifications on your phone or camera to avoid unexpected noises.
Always keep a safe distance from wild animals and never try to touch, feed or interact with them.
