Lopho, may I call you that? Sorry about the mensh yesterday. I had to wait ages for my first mensh, but it was worth it. Although I did get picked for Moira's Golden Oldie on Chris' first R2 Breakfast Show which was exciting, but that wasn't through the blog. I used to try and second guess the sort of tracks the team would be likely to pick, but when Boney M was played once, it completely threw me. Now I try to choose those tracks that I really know and like. Fingets crossed you get your mensh today!

Yes, lopho is fine, or, as my granddad used to say, you can call me anything as long as you don't call me late for dinner.



The mensh thing is really funny - somehow it's more the fun of looking, but kind of nice to be "rewarded" in some small way!!



By the way, what is this feature actually called? We have The Confession, 3-word days, The Showstopper, but this one has no official title, as far as I know.



Any ideas for Simon? What about Drivetime Themetunes? Would like to hear him saying that in a hurry. Ha.

It really does come down to a combination of luck, what other, non-themed songs are on the playlist (they presumably want to strike a balance) and how easy it is to find songs for that day's theme. But mainly, I think, luck.

as if! I doubt he knows what is on the playlist until he plays it! the producer has that call I think

Hmmm. I think DJs personal choice plays a small part in the production team's playlist selection. Simon definitely has a "type" of music he plays. IMO I tihnk sometimes he takes the music too seriously, eg, the opening tune on ARF via the blog was instigated via CLP. The original brief from CLP to get the weekend off to a cracker was "think cheesy, think party tunes". And it worked.

#83 Mcw - I think that might have been my fault for the AC/DC choice! It wasn't even a genuine ARF (I confess) because we had been talking about whether you could make more than 1 suggestion. I said that if you could chose more than 1, I would choose AC/DC. Feel slightly bad about that and then I went and dented the crown. I am not worthy.



Btw, do I gather you are coming to CiN? Hip hip hurrah!

I have no doubt that Simon has quite a big input into the songs chosen. I will have one more go at Level 42, then I'm going to have to consider an alternative choice I think. Trouble is, I'm not a big fan of the heavy rock tunes and I'm not going to suggest anything I don't actually like!

#85 Actually, Alex I really did enjoy 'Whole Lotta Rosie', and I don't want to take anything away from your choice or achievement. Infact, I can see I'm going to get in to trouble with Alison too, now. It just seems to me, that Simon and team probably enjoy the air guitar, head banging loud rock to start the show every Friday, bit of an antidote for all the following hen night requests!! #87 You are not in trouble at all! What makes this place so richly rewarding is the wide range of musical taste. If I haven't heard of something that has been suggested, I often go and hunt it down.



Must say, the squealing hen nights are a bit much sometimes but then on the other extreme, we had that VERY laid back lady the other week who was a complete counterfoil to the squealers! Remember her?

Grr, more upgrades.



If I wasn't off to work just now, I would be borrowing those boots off you Brandon.
