A suffix is a group of letters which are added to the end of a word to change its meaning.
Suffixes are:
- added to a verb StemThe stem is the part of the verb left after the infinitive ending -en or -n has been removed. to change it into a A nounA noun can also be described as naming word. It is the name of a person, place or object.
- added to a noun to change it into an AdverbAn adverb is used to describe a verb. An adverb like gern (like) shows what the person doing the action thinks of it.

A noun can be created by adding the suffix -ung to some verb stems. For example, lös-:

Changing a noun into an adverb
The suffix -s can be added to days and times of day to change them into Adverb of frequencyAn adverb of frequency describes how often an action occurs.:

Adverbs start with a lower case letter and follow the verb. For example:

Changing a verb into male agent nouns
Create a A male agent nounA male agent noun describes a male person who performs an action. by adding -er to a verb stem with the equivalent meaning. For example, besuch-:
Remove the -en/-n at the end of the infinitive eg besuchento visit which leaves the stem besuch-
Add -er to the verb stem and capitalise the noun to create der Besuchervisitor
