Commissioning
We commission content for all BBC Scotland’s radio, television, online and social media services
Welcome to the BBC Scotland commissioning page
We want to work with the best creatives to commission content that reflects modern Scotland and tells our stories to the world.
Our programmes reach audiences in a variety of ways – through iPlayer and linear channels like BBC One, Two and BBC Scotland, and increasingly through social platforms and YouTube. We need ideas that are distinctive within the BBC portfolio and the wider marketplace that we can champion and develop.
On iPlayer, we are looking for high quality programmes across scripted and unscripted with eye-catching titles and imagery that we can co-commission with the genres. These are our premium shows and should have strong Scotland portrayal but also have the potential to reach a wider UK audience. Recent iPlayer hits for BBC Scotland have been Richard Gadd’s new drama Half Man, returning factual brand Murder Case and new factual entertainment series Banjo and Ro’s Grand Island Hotel. We have also had success in working with international partners like HBO, Hulu and Sky New Zealand in scripted and we would like to explore similar opportunities across all the genres.
Our new pan-UK commissioning model
We’ve brought together commissioners from across the UK to increase the impact of our content, enable more decision-making to happen outside London, and help us authentically reflect audiences across every part of the UK. Find out more on the BBC Commissioning website.
It’s rolling commissioning and we use PiCoS to log and track ideas, so please do reach out to the commissioners and use the system to pitch to us.
Thank you for your interest in working with us, let’s create some big hits together!
Best wishes,
Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning
