The campaign to rid the world of polio begin in earnest over 20 years ago and now it seems it is close to 'mission accomplished'.
That is according to new research published in medical journal, The Lancet.
The disease can cause paralysis and is transmitted by, for instance, contaminated food and water.
A new vaccine, tested in Nigeria, has brought down instances of the disease by 95 per cent.
