The Mayor of Nairobi arrested over corruption

The Mayor of Nairobi, Geoffrey Majiwa has been detained over the controversial purchase of a piece of land for use as a cemetery.

Mr Majiwa becomes the most senior public official to be arrested by the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission.

Under the new constitution any public official arraigned in court will be expected to step down until proven not guilty by the court.
