In Sudan, January's referendum on possible southern independence is dominating the headlines.
But a second, less publicised referendum is due to be held on the same day.
It concerns the border region of Abyei, which will vote on whether to join the North or the South.
Progress towards the referendum has stalled, and so the National Congress Party and the SPLM have been holding emergency talks in Addis Ababa.
Those talks came to an end today.
