South Sudan's president pardons senior rebel army officers three months to the referendum on separation

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir has issued pardons to three rebel leaders who have been fighting the army in the south ever since elections in April.

This development comes less than a hundred days to a referendum for the potential full independence of the region, and improving security is a major concern.
