Southern Sudanese soldiers march in front of southern president Salva Kiir (unseen) on July 30, 2010 in the southern capital Juba

Over 22,000 child soldiers have already been demobilised

South Sudan has vowed to end the use of child soldiers in its army by the end of the year, as the former rebel force turned official southern military works to transform into a regular military.

A new child protection unit has been opened by the army to ensure that children's rights are protected and send those minors serving in the military to civilian life.

BBC Network Africa's Peter Martell witnessed the launch.
