According to Kenya's population census report published today, there are now 38.6 million people in Kenya.

It has taken exactly a year to publish the findings, the results having been postponed twice by the government, raising questions over the delay.

Meanwhile the Kenya government argues that it is the first country in Africa to release its census data in such a short space of time.

However the results for a number of districts were cancelled due to inconsistencies.

The BBC's Anne Waithera has been looking at the demographics.
