New fighting between al-Shabab and government troops in Mogadishu

Somalia al-Shabab fighters in northern Mogadishu

Heavy fighting between government forces, backed by international peacekeeping troops, and insurgent al-Shabab fighters broke out yesterday and continued through the night in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

There have been a number of civilian casualities.

BBC Network Africa's Bola Mosuro spoke to Mogadishu correspondent Mohammed Olad Hassan.
