Reclaiming barren land

News of floods and famine have dominated headlines from Niger in the past few months but little has been heard of the country's triumphs.

As the UN launch a Decade for Deserts and the Fight Against Desertification, Niger has been setting an example to the rest of the continent on how to turn land where once nothing grew into a fertile success story.

BBC Network Africa's Idy Baraou has been visiting a land reclamation site on the outskirts of the capital, Niamey.
