Fears that the north may be trying to ethnically cleanse Sudan's Abyei region

South Sudan has warned that the volatile region of Abyei is in grave danger of returning to violence.

The secretary general of the south's ruling SPLM party, Pagan Amum, claims that there is a potential for ethnic cleansing in the region.

Abyei has been claimed by both the north and the south.
