Can Nigeria be ready for early elections?

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has found itself with a major challenge after parliament made a constitutional amendment to bring general elections forward by four months.

INEC will now have to conduct the 2011 elections in January instead of April.

This means a very short time to prepare for what is already a mammoth task.

With this amendment there is more time for any electoral challenges to be resolved before the swearing-in date of May.

Professor Attahiru Jega is the chairman of INEC. BBC Network Africa's Chris Ewokor first asked him how he sees his appointment as Nigeria's top electoral umpire.
