Kenyan torture victims awarded half a million dollars

Twenty-one former political prisoners in Kenya have been awarded nearly half a million dollars in compensation for being tortured and detained uinfairly during the regime of former president Daniel Arap Moi.

The landmark ruling has been a long time coming.

The victims' first attempt to have their case heard, over 20 years ago, was thrown out by the then Chief Justice and only revived in 2003 after President Mwai Kibaki assumed office.

BBC Network Africa's Pul Bakibinga spoke to Wachira Waheire, one of the victims of the torture and the group's co-ordinator .
