The future of Sudan hangs in the balance.

An upcoming referendum due in January could see the south gain independence, but there are many unresolved issues.

For a look at some the challenges ahead, BBC Network Africa's Paul Bakibinga spoke to Dr Edward Thomas, from international relations thinktank Chatham House.
