The 18th International Aids Conference has opened in Vienna.
Thousands of delegates from around the world are expected to push for access to anti-retrovirals to be classified as a human right.
Anti-retrovirals, or ARVs, are used to control the HIV virus, but remain inaccessible to the people who need them most.
To get a better sense of the situation in many African coutries, BBC Network Africa's Paul Bakibinga spoke to Dr Patrick Dakum, a Nigerian delegate and the country director of the Institute of Human Virology, and Evelyn Similoi, a HIV positive mother.
