Zimbabwe has been given the go ahead to export some of its diamonds.

The agreement was reached by the industry's Kimberley Process certification scheme.

In January, the Kimberley group banned the sale of stones from the Marange diamond fields after documenting the abuse of civilians by soldiers guarding the mining site.

It is hoped that this decision will boost Zimbabwe's shattered economy.

BBC Focus on Africa's Sophie Ikenye spoke to Elly Harrowell from Global Witness, a campaigning group which is taking part in the Kimberley certification process.
