Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is expected to make his first visit to Nigeria as leaders from eight Islamic developing nations - the D8 - gather in Abuja today.
Iran has recently faced UN measures aimed at inhibiting its ability to develop nuclear weapons, but the D8 insist the focus of the gathering will be economic development.
The group comprises Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
From Abuja, BBC Network Africa's Chris Ewokor sent this report.
