A dozen suspects from Latin America, Europe and west Africa appeared in court in the Gambia today after their arrest in the country's biggest drugs bust.

Illegal cocaine with an estimated street value in excess of over a billion dollars was seized.

It is the latest in a series of trans-Atlantic drug deals which have been foiled.

West African routes have gained popularity in the illegal drugs trade.

The BBC's Mark Doyle was in court and sent this report.
