The UN Security Council will withdraw all of its peacekeepers from Chad and the Central African Republic.

The decision follows a call from the Chadian president, Idriss Deby Itno, earlier this year for his government to assume full responsibility for the security and protection of civilians in eastern Chad.

A quarter of a million refugees from Darfur currently live in Chad and are being looked after by the UNHCR.

BBC Network Africa's Paul Bakibinga spoke to Mans Nyberg, the UN refugee agency spokesman in Ndjamena.
