In Ivory Coast, a humanitarian charity is warning of alarming malnutrition problems in the north and to the west.
This despite the country still being one of the most sophisticated economies in the region with a strong agricultural sector.
But the civil crisis and the continued lack of progress on elections is bringing problems that many thought they would never see in Ivory Coast.
A recent survey shows overall malnutrition levels in certain regions of the ex-rebel zone are only just below emergency levels.
The BBC's John James, travelled with the British medical charity Merlin, to the town of Mankono in the former rebel zone.
