South Africa's President Jacob Zuma launched a major testing and counselling campaign in dramatic fashion by announcing his HIV status.
This came despite criticism that the controversy in his private life had undermined safe sex campaigns in the country
He was applauded for making public that he is HIV negative; about 5 million South Africans are believed to be infected with the virus.
Dr. Erick Goemaere head of MSF in South Africa spoke on the line from Cape Town to BBC Network Africa's Bola Mosuro about President Zuma's declaration.
