Everyday that planes can't fly into major European airports is a day of lost revenues for airlines.

The International Air Transport Association now says that the scale of the crisis facing the industry is greater than at the time of the 9/11 attacks on the US.

To get a picture of the impact of the flight ban on airlines in Africa, Focus on Africa's Hassan Arouni called up Kieran Daly, an independent aviation consultant in London.
