South Africa will be anxiously watching Washington today in anticipation of a verdict from the World Bank on whether it will say yes to giving a $3.75 billion dollar loan to finance the completion of a grand coal-fired power station in the Limpopo province.
In a country plagued by power shortages, the government says this project, which will be run by the state owned Eskom would provide electricity for all its 48 million people.
Opponents criticise the environmental costs of a coal fired power project. Mohammed Allie reports from Cape Town.
