UN and Democratric Republic of Congo troops say they have regained control of an airport in Mbandaka, the capital of the Western Equateur province.

Heavy fighting erupted over the weekend when armed insurgents attacked the town and took control of the airport, killing one UN soldier.

Last October violent clashes between two ethnic militias in Mbandaka forced thousands to flee the area.

Focus on Africa's Thomas Fessy has been monitoring the situation from Kinshasa.
