There's been a dramatic blow to Tanzania's bid to sell over 80 tonnes of stockpiled ivory to Japan and China, after the move was rejected by the UN body that oversees trade in wildlife.

A separate proposal to downlist Tanzania's elephants to a lower level of protection under the 175 nation Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), meeting in Doha, was also shot down after tense debate.

Focus on Africa's Stephanie Hancock is in Doha where Tanzania's minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Shamsa Mwangunga gave her reaction to the decision.
