Women in Uganda today achieved a small victory.
They have been trying to hold a demonstration since January and finally got the all clear from the police chief, who had foiled two previous demonstrations.
And while national celebrations to mark International Women's Day were taking place in the western part of the country, hundreds of women from the opposition Inter-Party Co-operation took to the streets of Kampala today, to protest against what they call bad governance and the potential for violence in elections due next year.
Focus on Africa's reporter, Joshua Mmali, witnessed the protest action.
