The situation is still very tense today in Jos, central Nigeria, following the deadly attacks on three villages on Saturday night.

Shops and schools stayed closed today, and the army has been patrolling the streets.

The attacks are reported to have been carried out by groups of Muslim Fulani against the Berom, who are predominately Christian.

The attacks are said to be in reprisal for an earlier incident two months ago, when at least 300 people, mostly Muslims, were killed in religious violence in Jos and its surroundings.

On the line to Jos, I spoke to Andrew Agbese, a reporter for the Daily Trust newspaper.
