The HIV and Aids pandemic has had a devastating effect on the continent, but according to the United Nations, it is women and girls who are bearing the brunt.
Later today in New York UNAIDS is launching an action plan to try and focus more on the plight of women.
But what is life like for women living with the syndrome?
We hear from women in Uganda and Sierra Leone;
First the BBC's Joshua Mmali went to meet Ugandans Rachael and first Annie, to hear their stories.
