French president Nicolas Sarkozy is due in Rwanda today, it is the first visit by a French leader to the country in 25 years.
Diplomatic ties between the two countries were officially severed in 2006 after a French judge issued international arrest warrants for several top Rwandan military officials, who he alleged were behind the assassination of President Juvenal Habyarimana that triggered the 1994 genocide.
The Rwandans in turn accused France of backing the Hutu regime blamed for the genocide.
Relations between the two countries are now on the mend and diplomatic ties were restored last month.
Our reporter in Kigali, Geoffrey Mutagoma explains how Rwanda has been preparing for the visit.
