The long abscence of President Umaru Yar'Adua ended early this morning when two planes landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja.

The first plane, an air ambulance, landed at 1.47am, a second one, the presidential aircraft, landed at 1.54am.

Several government officials said they were unaware of the president's impending return.

But now that he is back, there appears to be confusion as to what role the acting president, Goodluck Jonathan, will play.

From Abuja, Focus on Africa's Chris Ewokor reports.
