An 11 billion dollar takeover deal, involving one of the largest mobile phone operators in Africa has been thrown into doubt.

It appears the offer by Bharti Airtel, India's biggest phone company, to buy most of the African assets of Kuwaiti cell phone operator Zain, could face some hurdles in Nigeria.

An African company, Econet Wireless, which owns five percent of Zain Nigeria, says it is in dispute over Zain's ownership of the Nigerian operation, and that the dispute is currently under arbitration.

Nigeria has the highest number of mobile phone users in Africa and as such is a key market in Africa.

So has this intervention scuppered the takeover deal? That's the question Sophie Ikenye put to Sunil Jain, Editor of a leading business daily in India, Business Standard.
