Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria's Vice President yesterday became the country's acting head of state.

He addressed the nation in what appeared to be an acceptance speech following Parliament passing a motion for him to assume the top position in the land.

It ends weeks of speculation, concern and mounting unrest due to the two-month absence of ailing President Umaru Yar'Adua.

But Parliamentarians decided to take matters into their own hands by empowering the Vice president.
