Despite attempts by President Yoweri Museveni to distance his government from proposed anti-gay legislation, Uganda has continued to face criticism over the planned laws.

US president Barack Obama is the latest high profile leader to criticise the controversial private member's bill that calls for the death penalty in some cases of homosexual intercourse.

Speaking at a prayer breakfast attended by leaders of Congress, President Obama spoke out against laws aimed against homosexuals.
