Geography KS2 & KS3: Expedition to Guyana - Mount Roraima (no narration)

A montage of images of Mount Roraima capture the extraordinary mountain with its sheer sides rising above the rainforest of Guyana.

Aerial views capture the magnificence of the mountain.

There are glimpses of the surface of the mountain and its features as well as some of the endemic vegetation found on the mountain.

This clip is from the series Seriously Raleigh.

Teacher Notes

After watching the clip, children could research facts about Mount Roraima, ranging from where it is located to the type of animals and plants that are found there.

The children could then write down their research as if they were presenting a documentary.

The clip could then be played back on silent and the children could read their research out, as if presenting it to a TV audience.

The clip could also be used to stimulate discussions on the type of animals and plants that might be found, the challenges that they may face and the food chains that are in existence.

The children could compare the habitats of mountains to the habitats of rainforests or deserts and compare and contrast the different challenges that are faced in these areas.

Curriculum Notes

This clip is suitable for teaching Geography at KS2 and KS3 Level in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and at 2nd and 3rd Level in Scotland.
