The simple brief for bands entering the Be the Band competition was to write a song inspired by Children in Need about the experiences of childhood.

CrushDeluxe's entry, 'Are you ready for the weekend?', was inspired by singer Ian Cook's daughter's depressing Monday morning journey to school.

They say that they wanted the song to be 'uplifting and joyous' and to help achieve the right atmosphere on the track they recorded it wearing party hats and eating jelly.

The full CrushDeluxe line-up is as follows:

  • Ian Cook - Guitar and lead vocals
  • Sarah Cook - Keyboards and backing vocals
  • Andy Graham - Bass and backing vocals
  • Angie Bowman - Drums and backing vocals
  • Zoe Hallsworth - Saxophone (occasional member)

The prize they win for coming first and beating off all the other entrants from across the east of England is a BBC produced music video for their song and a live performance on BBC One during a massive Children in Need show in Norwich.
