China edge volleyball gold
China and Russia contest a point in the women's volleyball final
China came back from two sets down to take gold in an epic women's volleyball final against Russia.

The Chinese, who also pipped Cuba 3-2 in the semi-finals, prevailed 28-30, 25-27, 25-20, 25-23, 15-12.

Ping Zhang led a determined rally with 25 points after Russia won two tight sets, Yuehong Zhang clinching victory with a spike from the left side.

China's players cried and hugged each other on the side of the court as the stunned Russians sat in tears.

With the next Games in Beijing, China will have a chance to defend their title on home soil.

Cuba gained some consolation for giving up the Olympic title they had held for 12 years by beating Brazil to win the bronze.

The Cubans, ranked six in the world, won 25-22, 25-22, 14-25, 25-17.
