Plater has won the superbike race for the past three years |
Lincolnshire's Steve Plater believes he can win for the fourth year running at Saturday's North-West 200 road races in Northern Ireland. Plater, who this year will race for HM Plant Honda, won both supersport races and the main superbike event in 2008. He will start fifth on the grid in superbike and second in supersport. Plater told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I've won from further back so I'm not worried, it's a case of getting off the line and settling into the race." But Tuesday's practice session did not go entirely smoothly for Plater. He admitted: "I didn't read my pit board fully. I'd got the "in" board but didn't come into the pits and had a couple of misfires at the start of my lap so I pulled over and stopped. "I knew I was getting low on fuel so I spoke to the circuit's safety officer, who was kind enough to lend me £5 so I could go to a filling station [on the route], put some fuel in and ride back to the paddock. I did get a receipt for it as well." Plater is scheduled to ride in the North-West 200's two superbike races at 1145 BST and 1600 BST and in the two supersport races at 1245 BST and 1715 BST.
