TT Races marshals begin training

The Isle of Man TT races
The 2009 TT Races begin on Saturday 30 May

Training has begun for the 3,500 marshals who have already signed up to take part in next years' TT Races.

Six months before the event more than 100 volunteers have attended a one day incident management course.

The training covers race procedure, learning about flag signals and TETRA radio instruction.

In addition there is a first aid section which includes removing a crash helmet, applying a neck brace and loading a casualty onto a helicopter.

Isle of Man Tourism Minister Martyn Quayle said: "Marshals are the lifeblood of motorcycling on the Isle of Man and the TT couldn't take place without them.

"Everyone who follows the races owes them a debt of gratitude."
