Nottingham Forest captain James Perch says he is relieved to have signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract.

Perch, who can play in midfield or defence, was named skipper when Billy Davies took over as boss and has played a key part in their recent resurgence.

"I was coming towards the end of my contract so I'm delighted everything has been sorted," said the 23-year-old.

"Billy is an ambitious man and wants to take Forest into the Premier League and I want to be a part of it."

Perch, who has agreed a deal which commits him to the club until 2011, came up through the ranks at the City Ground.

"I know I've made the right decision and couldn't be happier," he added.
