Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy ordered his players not to dwell on what might have been after the disappointment of the FA Cup semi-final loss to Millwall. "It's time to be men about it. We had a disappointment but we can't let it linger into our league form," he said.
"It's easy when you're doing well, you get to a semi and people pat you on the back and say what great guys you are.
"It's when you've had disappointment and have to pick yourself up - then you discover if you're a decent team."
McCarthy said he felt his side were unfortunate not to score at Old Trafford.
"I thought we had the better of the early exchanges, a mistake cost us," he said.
"I think we've had enough chances to have got something out of the game in the second half. But it wasn't to be."
And McCarthy added that the club's superb cup run was no consolation for failing to reach the final.
"There's no heroic failures for me, I'm not into that one," he said.
"We're very disappointed that we've lost.
"It's was nice to get to the semi but we wanted to get to the final, that's the achievement.
"Millwall have done it, good luck to them."
