Owner puts Rossendale up for sale

Non-league football

Unibond League First Division North side Rossendale United have been put up for sale by owner Andrew Connolly.

Connolly has owned the Stags for a decade but has now decided on a sale that will include United's Dark Lane ground, facilities and social club.

"I just feel that it is the right time for somebody to come in," Connolly told the club's website.

"The debts have been cleared and it needs someone with enthusiasm to take over with some new blood."

For the past two years, the Stags have been run a group of volunteers headed by club chairman and former player Steve Hobson.

We want somebody that's got an interest in the club and wants to take it forward

"We're not one of these clubs who are on the steps of the High Court," Hobson BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We want somebody that's got an interest in the club and wants to take it forward.

"He [Connolly] rescued the club when it was in a bad way. Since then things have been put right behind the scenes.

"We believe we've got a solid infrastructure and Andrew feels he's got something he can sell rather than what might have been a dead duck a few years ago."
